WHAT IS PILATES?
The Pilates Method was developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. Now known as Pilates, Joseph called his method Contrology, or the ability to focus one's mind to control intrinsic muscles. Working on a rehabilitation program for prisoners of war during WWII in England, Joseph Pilates, a former boxer, created equipment that was later found to not only rehabilitate but also to support injury prevention and fitness gains. After leaving the POW camp, he moved to New York to focus on increasing the strength and agility of boxers. He further expanded his clientele in the 1960s, when the neighboring Martha Graham Modern Dance studio registered injured dancers for rehabilitation.
WHAT ARE PILATES EQUIPMENT SESSIONS?
Pilates equipment sessions involve a specific and purposeful combination of Cadillac, Reformer, and Chair equipment, as well as props such as foam rollers, BOSUs, stability balls, and rotational disks.
WHO EXERCISES THROUGH PILATES?
Since application ranges from injury rehabilitation to performance magnification, Pilates can serve individuals of any ability and age. Central Core employs a performance-oriented style of instruction that is specifically modified for varying ability as well as current and aspired fitness levels.
WHAT CAN PILATES DO FOR ME?
Pilates can help you develop long and lean muscles fibers in response to exercises that introduce dynamic tension to the phases and paths of natural movement under optimized posture. CAN I EXERCISE THROUGH PILATES DURING PREGNANCY?
While Pilates is a proven method for helping your body manage and recover from the challenges of your pregnancy and delivery, physicians now recommend doing Pilates during pregnancy because it can strengthen the most important muscles you will use leading up to and during labor. IS PILATES SUITABLE FOR MY CHILD?
Unlike most other forms of resistance training, Pilates not only lengthens and strengthens muscle fibers, but also corrects muscular imbalances that can occur during preadolescent growth spurts. In line with our approach to training adults, we offer personalized instruction based on your child's individual state in his or her development. We generally recommend that teenagers over the age of 13 add resistance training to their exercise, but a qualified instructor will make that determination after evaluating your child and collaborating with you.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT OF MY FIRST PILATES SESSION?
In an effort to reduce paper usage, Central Core's appointment, registration, and waiver documents are exclusively offered online through MindBody
. Registration is required before first-time participation regardless of session type. Your first private session will include a postural evaluation, as well as an introduction to optimal breathing and muscle structure in addition to a full body workout.
WHAT DO I WEAR DURING A PILATES SESSION?
It is important that you wear fitted and breathable exercise attire that permits for a full range of movement while allowing the instructors to see your alignment and form. Clients who do wear baggy shorts should wear them over sport trunks. Shoes are not worn during a session and socks are optional.
